Transcultural Trails:

A dialogue with

Self and Group

across Time and Space

As part of our Culture, Language, & Identity course, we designed a multi-player board game where students

  1. Reflect on their cultural/linguistic experiences related to schooling.

  2. Hear one another’s stories and talk about them together.

  3. Engage in co-creating the game to be passed on to future groups.

How to play?

Each card contains a personal story and reflection question, labeled with time and location.

The cards are divided into five themes: Transculturation, Translanguaging, Family Practices, Social Awareness, and Understanding History.

On each turn, you will

  1. draw 1 card from the deck.

  2. read and discuss with your group.

  3. move your character forward to the nearest block that matches the card’s theme.

The Game Evolves –

Crossing Time & Space

Your group can decide when the game ends.

(Ex: Everyone reaches the end)

Add your own cards!

Each person makes 3 new cards based on your own schooling experiences and feel free to talk about them!

Pass the board game to the next group of folks.

Ultimately, the deck of cards will be filled with snapshots of school experiences from participants all around the world!
